I don’t even know where to start. Nickelodeon has decided not to renew How To Rock for a second season.

The news was broken by How to Rock’s showrunner and Executive Producer David Israel on his Tumblr and confirmed by Nickelodeon on their offical twitter profile.
An excerpt from David’s post:
There have been rumors swirling around about the future of How To Rock so I thought it time to set the record straight. Nickelodeon has decided, unfortunately, not to give How To Rock a second season. I know this news will be very disappointing for many of you. Believe me, it’s disappointing for me, too.
Why isn’t the show coming back? There’s no one simple answer. NIckelodeon is going through a transition right now. You already know that iCarly and Victorious are not coming back. Nickelodeon has many new shows in production and development that they believe will better suit their audience. While I don’t love their decision, I have no choice other than to accept it. The Nickelodeon executives who’ve worked on the development and production of How to Rock have been incredibly supportive of the show this past year. They’re good people who want nothing more than to make the best shows for their audience. I know it wasn’t an easy decision for them — they truly do like the show — and I’m grateful for the time and energy they’ve put in to make How To Rock as good as it is. Or was.
Nickelodeon certainly is going through a transition right now. iCarly is ending. They cancelled Bucket & Skinner. They cancelled Victorious. And now they’ve cancelled How To Rock. Supah Ninjas and Big Time Rush are the only things they’ve kept (for now at least, as I have a feeling Supah Ninjas won’t last either.)
It begs the question, what game are the Nick executives playing here? It’s just not smart to cancel so many shows at once because if a person is a fan of two shows and you cancel one, they’ll generally keep watching the other long enough that you can hook them on that new show you intended to replace the first show with. But if you cancel both shows at once you’ve lost that viewer. Simple as that.
There are nine episodes of HTR left and Nick will be airing them over the next couple months. The last episode, “How To Rock Christmas,” will air on December 8th 2012.
Meanwhile, iCarly is scheduled to air it’s finale in November 2012. Victorious still has 15 episodes and will likely be stretched out into the nearly part of next year. And if you want to see Bucket & Skinner apparently you have to move to Canada. :/
