There is no denying that this girl is super pretty. You just can’t help but look at her when she is on screen.

Got to meet her yesterday at a CD signing in Cleveland. She looks amazing in person, such a natural beauty. She was wearing hardly any makeup and is even prettier than she looks on tv.

The signing was a madhouse and I blame Sony Entertainment who sponsored the event at a suburban Wal-Mart. I live in Dayton, about 3 hours away, but was visiting my parents who live in Cleveland last weekend, so I thought what-the-hey. If I haven’t mentioned it before, I have an 8-year-old daughter, which explains my knowledge of the shows on both TDC and Nick. I arrived at dcfans site via the save Disney Shows years ago.

Anyways, the original story was that CD’s and wristbands would be sold/distributed to the 1st 500 in line beginning at 9:00am. My DD and I arrived at 8:30 and my guess was there were close to 300 people ahead of us, wound up and down the aisles that Wal-Mart must have roped off the night before. Of course, I have been to signings and photo sessions before, so I knew what to expect. I told my daughter that there was a chance we wouldn’t get to see her, but if we got a wristband, we would stay, and even then, we wouldn’t really get a long chance to talk with her since there were so many people there. My daughter said she wanted to see her, so we decided to wait it out. Around 9, the WM people told us that they wouldn’t start selling the CD’s and wristbands until noon, which brought a collective groan from the now larger than 500 person line. By about 10, Sony reps began showing up and the PA speakers were used to inform the crowd that we would be taken aisle-by-aisle to purchase CD’s and get our wristbands beginning at 11.

The line had to have numbered more than 700 people by 11 and you could see they were telling people at the end that they would most likely not be able to see Victoria since many were leaving after arrival or coming up to the front of the line for a chance to see anything. Mind you, the store was still open for business on a Saturday morning, so they couldn’t close off the aisles if they wanted to make any sales. Every other end had been roped off to create a make-shift turnback as if we were waiting in line for a roller coaster.

Just after 11, the line began moving. They were taking people back to sporting goods for the CD’s/wristbands and then having them get into a new line along the wall by home and garden before being shuffled into the covered outdoor garden area where they keep fertilizer and annuals. Their next mistake was to only give wristbands to non-adults waiting to see Victoria, so some people who didn’t wait in our line were able to jump into the second line without wristbands and still get through to the outdoor area. Somewhere along the way, they corrected this mistake and began giving everybody in line wristbands, adults and children.

By 12:30, we had gotten our CD and wristbands and moved into the next line. I didn’t see anybody who hadn’t been waiting with us, so they fixed that problem, at least. After another hour, we were corralled into the outdoor garden area where VJ was seated at a table flanked by 6 standing Sony reps, 3 per side. The person at the door said to take the liner notes out of the CD case so it would be easier to sign. I started videotaping when one of the reps ripped the liner notes from my daughter’s hands and said she’d give it to Victoria. This ticked us off because we wanted her to sign a specific page. There was no time to say Hi, no time to take pictures with her. I didn’t even get a pic of my DD by the table in front of her because I was shifting my camera from video to photo and one of the Sony reps/thugs pushed my daughter away from the table immediately after VJ handed the liner notes to another rep who handed it back to my daughter.

So, I guess you could say that I didn’t REALLY meet her, but rather got to see her through the viewfinder of my camera at first. I still stand by my original comments that she looks amazing in person. She was wearing the orange and white top that she has on on the cover of the CD. I couldn’t see if she was wearing shorts, a skirt or jeans. The one thought I had was that she looked skinnier in person. As I was being moved away from the table, I looked back at her and said, “thank you for doing this for the kids. It’s really great.”

She mouthed, “you’re welcome.” and returned to signing the liner notes for the other kids in line. My DD and I walked out of garden center at 1:28, 4 hours and 58 minutes after we had arrived at Wal-Mart that morning.

At lunch after the signing, I asked my DD what was wrong. She looked down at the table and mumbled, “you were right, Dad.”

I shrugged my shoulders and said, “hey, at least you can say that you met her and had your CD signed by her.”

She didn’t say much more about after that. There’s my details. The poor Wal-Mart people did the best they could with an impossible situation and the Sony reps and hired security were the most thuggish I’ve seen for an event that involved mostly pre-teen girls and their parents.

I’ll try to do some screen caps of the video I took and let you know where I post them.

I will never understand why they bother doing that. Instead of treating the lucky few who get there early enough to an autograph, 20-second chats, and a photo, they get ‘reps’ speed up the process and hand the item to the person, so no one leaves pleased.

deejay, I can’t say I’m really that surprised. For Sony, it’s all about selling as many CDs as possible. No one’s gonna stop being a fan because of a rushed signing, so they try and cram as many people through as possible. I don’t say I blame them, but there are better ways to do it.

The Barns and Noble at the Grove in LA does these kind of events on a weekly basis, and they know how to do it right. They open for business at 10AM and start selling the CDs/DVDs/Books immediately at the regular register. With each purchase they distribute lettered wristbands in groups of 25 or so. Once you’ve got your wristband, you’re free to leave. You just have to come back about an hour before the signing when they’ll form up the line by letter. So if you were in the first group in the morning, you’ll be in the first group in line.

It’s a great system because you know exactly where you are in line and you don’t spend five hours in line blocking their shelves. I wish more venues & companies would adopt this system.

Anyway, all that said, I think I’m glad I just ordered my signed CD online. I’ll have to scan it and post it in a day or two. deejay, you’ll have to let me know how it compares to the autograph you saw her actually sign. I’m not sure I exactly trust Sony now. LOL
